Australian saxophonist Adrian Tully (1982*, Sydney) has been studying and performing in Europe since 2004. He has performed in France, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Slovenia and Australia. Most notably, he performed as soloist in the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam (May 2009) in the dutch premiere of Thierry Escaich's concerto for soprano saxophone, Le Chant des Ténèbres. He has also performed in venues such as the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t Ij and the Theater aan het Spui (The Hague) as well as live radio broadcasts (Radio 4, Netherlands) and a concerto performance at the Onwings festival in Groningen. Adrian was also a member of the Ligeti Academy, the training ensemble of the Amsterdam based Asko-Schoenberg and has performed with the Radio Kamer Filharmonie.
Highlights in Australia include a performance of Jacques Ibert's Concertino da Camera in the Qld Conservatorium, along with performances with both The Queensland Orchestra and the Australian Youth Orchestra.
In 2007 Adrian was winner of the premier prix and prix d'honneur at the 14th Concours Européen de Musique en Picardie and was awarded Second Prize at the 4th International Saxophone Competition in Slovenia. He was a semi-finalist in the 4th International Adolphe Sax Competition in Dinant, Belgium (2006) and a finalist in the Concours Adolphe Sax at L'hay les Roses, Paris(2006). In Australia, he won 1st prize in the Young Artists Competition at the Australasian Clarinet and Saxophone Conference (2002).
Adrian holds a Masters of Music from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, while in Paris he was awarded the Prix de Perfectionnement in Saxophone from the CNR de Cergy-Pontoise and the Diplome d'Etudes Musicales from the CNR de Paris. He was also awarded the Medaille d'Or in chamber music from the CNR de Cergy Pontoise. He received his Bachelor of Music (Performance) from the Queensland Conservatorium (Australia). His principal teachers have been Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Christian Wirth, Arno Bornkamp and Barry Bobart.
Now a resident of Den Haag, The Netherlands, Adrian is an active performer in many settings and genres of music. He also writes regularly for the Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Magazine.
